DESCRIPTION:Shield Maiden launch party and reading! \nJoin author Sharon Emmerichs in kicking off the U.S. release of her book “Shield Maiden\,” a romantic\, fantasy\, historical retelling of the Beowulf poem from the point of view of a disabled woman who wishes to become a shield maiden to protect  her clan. \nSharon is an Associate Professor of English at UAA who teaches medieval and early modern literature and Shakespeare. Her book was published in the UK in February 2023 and it became an immediate Sunday Times Top Ten bestseller its first week. It won the Jason Wenger Award for Excellence in Creative Writing from the UAA Creative Writing and Literary Arts program\, and it was chosen as Book of the Month from the prestigious Goldsboro Bookstore in London.
