DESCRIPTION:The Spenard Jazz Fest 2019 is bringing to Anchorage some of the state’s finest jazz musicians\, and The Writer’s Block is giving them the stage!  We’ll close the night with a late night Speakeasy treat\, replete with ambience and cocktails! \nThe SJF Opening Party features our out-of-town guests.: \n5:30pm: Tom Locher\, Alyssa Fischer\, Clay Good (from Juneau) \n7:30pm: Elite 9 (from Seward) \n8:30pm: Karen Strid (Homer) with Dale Curtis (Ketchikan) \n10:00 Speakeasy\, hosted by Teeka Ballas with the JacMuse Quartet\, featuring Kenny Blackwell \n  \n\n\nMUSIC BY ALASKANS FOR ALASKANS\n12 seasons of Alaskan music!\n\nSPENARD JAZZ FEST (SJF) was founded in 2008 by local composers who wanted to create a showcase platform for Alaskan original creative music and a place for lovers of live music to meet. SJF is an OPEN MINDED MUSIC FESTIVAL  – “What jazz is” isn’t up to us to decide .  Did you know that over 200 original pieces by more than 60 distinct composers of “jazz” have been featured at Spenard Jazz Fest over the years?  Did you know that we feature players and composers from across Alaska? Did you know that we even fly in Alaskans who have settled in other places? Did you know that we even host celebs (“wannabe” Alaskans) such as Lenny Pickett?  Well\, we do. In May/ June SJF hosts 2 weeks of amazing house concerts\, yard parties & public jam sessions. \nThe SJF Opening Party features our out of town guests\, \nOur 12 hour music Marathon on 3 stages is Saturday (6/1) : Sunday(6/2): Featured Artist concert (Marian Call) + Closing Party  Monday night  (6/3) 2 great jazz movies at the Bear Tooth!
