DESCRIPTION:Award-winning writer Julia O’Malley will take part in an Alaska Book Week kickoff event on Friday\, October 4 at the Writer’s Block. Her new book is a combination of recipes and food journalism about topics that touch on Alaska life such as provisioning\, deprivation\, subsistence\, fermenting\, and Alaskans’ relationship to the wider world of food. \nDoors open at 6:30 p.m. with appetizers and a drink themed to Julia’s cookbook.  Food and drink will be catered by the Writer’s Block.  The program starts at 7 p.m. Julia will read for about 20 minutes from her book and explain its format\, followed by audience Q&A with audience and conversation with Julia.
