SUMMARY:7:30pm: AKamerata String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:FEATURING: \nDr. Oleg Proskurnya (violin) \nEmily Madsen (violin) \nKoree Guzman (viola) \nErin Kim (cello) \nPERFORMING:\nBedrich Smetana\, String Quartet No. 1 in E minor (“From My Life”)\nLudwig van Beethoven\, String Quartet No. 7 in F Major\, Op. 59\, No. 1 \nInterestingly\, both of these quartets were composed by composers who were deaf or gradually becoming deaf at the time of their composition. The Beethoven quartet was composed in 1806\, and the Smetana dates from 1876. The Beethoven quartet was commissioned by Prince Andrey Razumovsky\, who was the Russian ambassador to Vienna at the time. If you listen to the fourth movement\, you will hear a popular Russian theme that Beethoven has chosen to use as an homage to Razumovsky. The Smetana\, as the title suggests\, is a semi-autobiographical quartet that is inspired by the arc of Smetana’s life. The fourth movement’s first violin part contains a high\, sustained harmonic E\, which is meant to imitate the ringing in his hears that Smetana experienced at the onset of his deafness. \n  \nsuggested $10 donation at the door
