6pm: Cultural Appropriation–A Community Conversation

One of Alaska’s greatest virtues is its diversity. The people of Alaska, from the first Alaskans to new immigrants are generous in sharing their cultures, but unfortunately, sometimes the recipients of that generosity appropriate the gifts of others. Please join us for a community conversation on cultural appropriation, what it is, how to recognize it, and what we can do to avoid it and work together. The conversation consists of a panel discussion followed by audience participation. The panel discussion includes notable members of our community: Melissa Shaginoff. E.J. Ramos Davis, Itzel Zagal, Riva Symko, Lorena Medina, and Sonya Hunte. The panel is moderated by Indra Arriaga. The event will be recorded and aired on KONR 106.1 FM, Out North Radio.
